Holika Dahan is a Hindu festival celebrated on the night of Phalgun Purnima, marking the victory of good over evil. It is also known as Chhoti Holi, observed a day before the festival of colors, Holi.

Mythological Significance

The festival is associated with the legend of Prahlad, Hiranyakashipu, and Holika. Hiranyakashipu, a demon king, wanted to kill his son Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu. His sister Holika, who had a boon that fire could not harm her, sat in the fire with Prahlad. However, due to divine protection, Holika burned while Prahlad remained unharmed. This symbolizes the triumph of devotion and righteousness over arrogance and evil.
